From your control panel go in to the email manager screen and select the antispam icon by the mail account you wish to edit. If you do not see the icon then click the email address on the screen and check the box for antispam.
Our mail servers use a combination of Spam Assassin and white/black list filtering. From your antispam screen in your email control panel you can set the sensitivity of the filter. Spam Assassin works by scoring an email based on keyword phrases contained in the email message. If it finds that the message scores a total greater then the level of the filter then it treats the message as spam.
What happens next is based on additional settings in your antispam screen in the control panel. There are three choices on how to handle something tagged as spam: 1. Mark the subject with the word spam and deliver the message. 2. Delete the message. (Once deleted the message can not be recovered.) 3. Move the spam to a different mail box.
If there is an email you always want to receive no matter how it scored in Spam Assassin, then that is where the white list is used. If you place an email address in the white list, messages from that email address will always pass through without getting tagged. Conversely, if you want messages from a domain or mailbox always to be tagged spam, then place it in the black list.
There are also certain filters that are in use before a message even reaches the mail server. These include virus scans and rbl lookups on the sending mail server. If a mail server is found to be a known spam source then the message is automatically deleted. |
